Convert an image to a printable STL

Built for 3D printing: brightness becomes height, and the result is a solid model with a flat base and walls, ready to slice. Choose a raised relief for signs and coasters, or a lithophane that reveals the photo when lit from behind.

How it works

Three steps, no software to install.

  1. 1

    Upload an image

High-contrast pictures and logos give the crispest relief.

  2. 2

    Choose relief or lithophane

Relief: bright areas rise. Inverted: dark areas rise. Lithophane: dark areas are thicker so light passes through the bright parts.

  3. 3

    Download the STL

The model is 100 mm wide. Scale it in your slicer, add a frame or a hanging hole, and print.

Tips for better results

  • For lithophanes, print in white PLA, standing upright, with 100% infill.
  • Increase contrast before uploading; flat images make flat reliefs.
  • Use a transparent PNG to keep only the logo raised and the rest at base height.
  • Higher detail means larger STL files; 180 is a good default.

questions.

Is the STL watertight?

The model is a closed solid: a height-mapped top, a flat bottom and four side walls. Some slicers report the shared edges as separate shells; that is harmless and fixed by any repair pass.

How thick is a lithophane?

Brightest pixels get the thinnest material and darkest pixels the thickest. At the default 100 mm width that runs from about 0.8 mm to 3.8 mm; scaling the model in your slicer scales thickness too.

Can I make a full 3D object instead of a relief?

Yes. Use the AI reconstruction engine on the Image to 3D page to infer the full shape of an object from a photo.
